The Clinton Arrows have had 87 years of football since the first game against Jackson Central
in 1920. Clinton, year in and year out, has had one of the greatest winning traditions in Mississippi.
Legend has it that the team was called the Clinton "Dodgers" in the 1920's and 1930's
after local resident visited New York City and watched the professional Dodger team play. Then in the 1930's, the student
body voted "Arrows" as the mascot that fit so well with the Mississippi College "Choctaws" mascot located just down the street
from CHS.
Clinton was a charter member of the Little Dixie Conference when it was formed in 1952.
The Arrows toatlly dominated the conference in the 1960's and 1970's. CHS won north division titles in 1960, 1961, 1971, 1974,
1975, 1977, and 1980. Clinton was Co-Champ in 1973 and 1976. Four times, in 1972, 1975, 1977, and 1980, Clinton High was the
overall Little Dixie Conference Champ.
In 1981, the Miss. High School Activities Association went to the present playoff
format, and Clinton has made 24 playoff appearances.
Four times, in 1987, 1993, 2000, and 2004 the Arrows played for the
Class 5A North or South State Championship. The success of the team over all these years is tied to the great support of the
community and the support of athletics by each administration.
In 1996, a new Clinton High School was dedicated on Arrow Drive. A new
stadium site now lies east of Clinton High School on Arrow Drive where the Arrows of the future will play beginning
in 2007.
